You’ll find us in north-west Skye on the Waternish peninsula at the beginning of Lochbay Township on the B886 road and overlooking the historic village of Stein, a mere 5 miles from Dunvegan with its castle and shops, or 22 miles from Skye’s main town, Portree.
Our magical peninsula of Waternish is resonant with romance, history and legend whilst offering a wide range of outdoor activities and places to see. The cottage overlooks the historic village of Stein, originally conceived in the eighteenth century by William Telford as a model fishing village on the shores of Loch Bay. Today it is home to Stein Inn, the oldest inn on Skye, and the renowned Lochbay Seafood Restaurant.
There’s plenty to do, with Waternish home to several popular visitor attractions such as Skyeskyns, Scotland’s only traditional sheepskin tannery and showroom, Shilasdair Yarns, Halistra Pottery, Dandelion Designs and Braefasach Studio.
From Auld Orwell Cottage you can also explore further afield to nearby Dunvegan Castle, home of the Clan MacLeod, the magnificent Cuillin Mountains, Glendale and dramatic Neist Point, or even take a ferry for a day trip to Harris or North Uist in the Outer Hebrides.
Whatever you seek, full days with long summer evenings or a cosy fireside winter break in an unspoilt location, you will be a most welcome guest in our unique cottage.
